Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has a history of thousands of years. It is the integration of the precious experience of understanding life, maintaining health, and fighting diseases accumulated in daily life and medical practice. It is also a paramount element of Chinese culture development. Yan Chai has committed to the development and promotion of the conventional medical culture of Chinese therapy and herbal medicine since the establishment of the first Yan Chai Chinese Medicine Clinic in Tsuen Wan in 1998. With the generous support from the Bank of China (Hong Kong), we established the second Yan Chai Chinese Medicine Clinic in Sai Ying Pun, namely Yan Chai Hospital BOC Medical Centre - Chinese Medicine Clinic, in 2002.
In recent years, Traditional Chinese Medicine is becoming more significant in Hong Kong’s healthcare system. To enhance public’s confidence on Chinese Medicine, the Hospital Authority has continued to set up research-based Chinese medicine centres aiming to provide specialized Chinese medicine services and offer a hub for evidence-based clinical research on Chinese medicine. Yan Chai is honoured to participate since the initial stage with the Hospital Authority for setting up of the new Chinese medicine clinic. In 2003, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Hospital Authority and Yan Chai on the establishment of the “Yan Chai Hospital - Hong Kong Baptist University Chinese Medicine Centre for Training and Research (Yan Chai).
The “Yan Chai Hospital cum Hong Kong Baptist University Chinese Medicine Clinic cum Training and Research Centre (Ha Kwai Chung)” was the second clinic set up in by Yan Chai cooperation with the Hospital Authority and renowned universities in 2007 and it provides a more convenient option to the residents in Kwai Tsing District for our Chinese medicine services. This clinic specializes in Oncology and offers Acupuncture Services. In 2009, the “Yan Chai Hospital - Hong Kong Baptist University Clinical Centre for Training and Research in Chinese Medicine (West Kowloon)” located in Cheung Sha Wan Government Office have started their services and extended our network to West Kowloon.
Since March 2020, with the support of the Government, the three abovementioned tripartite Chinese medicine centres have started to provide subsidized Chinese medicine general consultation and acupuncture services. The centres are also renamed as “Yan Chai Hospital - Hong Kong Baptist University Chinese Medicine Clinic cum Training and Research Centre (Tsuen Wan District)”, “Yan Chai Hospital - Hong Kong Baptist University Chinese Medicine Clinic cum Training and Research Centre (Kwai Tsing District)” and “Yan Chai Hospital - Hong Kong Baptist University Chinese Medicine Clinic cum Training and Research Centre (Sham Shui Po District)” with effect from March 2020 as to better reflect their roles and functions under Hospital Authority’s new service model.
To further develop our Chinese medicine services, we established the "Yan Chai Hospital Wilson Tsang Churk-ming Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Pain Treatment Centre" and "Yan Chai Hospital Mr. & Mrs. Anson Dai Sai Kung Man Yee Wan Village Chinese Medicine Clinic" in Tsuen Wan and Sai Kung respectively for provision of acupuncture and general TCM service to the community, the Sai Kung clinic has been relocated in April 2024. Integrated Medical Centre which is located in Cheung Sha Wan, has been opened in 2018, in which Chinese Medical Service is also provided. In order to meet the soaring demand for Chinese medicine service, the clinic in Sai Ying Pun was expanded in 2016 under generous support from donor. The new division, namely “Yan Chai Hospital Ng Hei Ming Chinese Medicine Unit”, is now in service for more patients in the district.
In addition to the medical care services provided by these clinics, our Registered Chinese Medicine Practitioners have hosted various kinds of talks and workshops in different districts in Hong Kong to increase the public’s health awareness and encourage early action for preventing disease from worsening and relapsing.
